Ingredients and quantity

  • Split gram dal – 250gms.
  • Jaggery – 150gms.
  • Salt – to taste
  • Coconut(for milk) – ΒΌ no.
  • Clarified butter – 50ml.
  • Cashew nuts – 50gms.
  • Cardamom – 15gms.
  • Baking soda – 2pinch
  • Betel leaves – 1bunch

Method of preparation

  1. Fry the split green gram dal and make into powder.
  2. Extract coconut milk from coconut.
  3. Add the jaggery into the coconut milk and stir till the jaggery gets dissolve. Strain.
  4. Then add the green gram dal powder into milk mixture.
  5. Add the cardamom powder and the fried cashew nuts.
  6. Make it into a batter consistency.
  7. In a Idly steamer apply clarified butter in the leaves and pour the batter and fold it, Steam.
  8. A hot and sweet thambullah panniyaram gets ready.
